Why Prompt Care Matters For Dental Emergencies
Did you know that ignoring or delaying dental treatment when you’ve experienced an emergency can cause more serious consequences, including:
Worsening Health Issues: Untreated dental issues can escalate, leading to severe infections, tooth loss, or damage to surrounding teeth and tissues. Early intervention helps prevent these complications and keeps your oral health on track.
Increased Discomfort: Dental issues left untreated often result in escalating pain and discomfort. Seeking prompt care can alleviate this problem and prevent it from worsening, allowing you to return to your daily routine more quickly.
Higher Treatment Costs: Addressing dental emergencies early can often result in simpler and more cost-effective treatments. Delaying care can lead to more complex procedures and higher costs later on.
Impact on Overall Well-Being: Dental health is closely linked to overall well-being. Dental infections can affect your general health, while problems with chewing and speaking can impact your quality of life. Timely dental care helps maintain your systemic wellness and quality of life.
How Should You Care For Your Mouth Until You See Us?
Severe Toothache: After rinsing your mouth with warm salt water to reduce discomfort, avoid placing heat on the area, and take over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen. Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek to manage swelling.
Chipped or Broken Teeth: Rinse with warm water to clean the area. If there’s bleeding, apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth, and save and bring any broken pieces of the tooth to our office.
Knocked-Out Tooth: Handling the tooth by the crown, rinse it gently with water, but don’t scrub or remove any tissue. Place the tooth back in its socket if possible, or keep it in a cup of milk or a saline solution until you see us.
Lost Fillings or Crowns: Clean the affected area with warm water. If there’s sensitivity, use a piece of sugarless gum to cover the exposed area temporarily. Avoid chewing on the affected side.
Dental Abscess: Rinse your mouth with warm salt water to reduce pain and swelling. Avoid applying heat and take over-the-counter pain relievers as needed until you see us.
